We trace and tone every live run, re-terminate and dress the closet properly, and give you a labelled patch panel with a port map that says which jack is in which room. After that, moving a desk is a five-minute job instead of an afternoon of guessing.

- That you'll keep paying people to replace equipment that was never the problem, and nobody will ever give you a straight answer about what's actually wrong.
Intermittent faults are almost always a physical-layer problem — a run that's too long, terminated badly, sharing a tray with a ballast, or an access point mounted where coverage was assumed rather than measured. We test the runs, survey the coverage, and show you the results. Sometimes the fix is two cables and one relocated access point, and we'll say so.
What a cabling project looks like from your side of it
Cable work is the trade people forget to schedule until the ceiling is closed. Here's the real sequence, including the parts that need a decision from you.
Walk the space and count the drops
We walk the floor with you, mark every location that needs a jack, look above the ceiling and inside the walls to see what the pathways really are, find where the comms room can live, and check the distance from that room to the furthest position. We photograph existing closets and note what's reusable.
Decide where people and equipment are actually going — desks, printers, cameras, access points, door readers, tills, phones. A floor plan with furniture on it is worth more to us than a spec. Also tell us whether this space is yours for two years or ten; that changes what we recommend.
Design, drop schedule, fixed-price quote
You get a numbered drop schedule mapped to a floor plan, the cable category we recommend for each use and why, the rack or wall-mount layout, and a fixed price broken out by line item. If existing cable can be reused, it's called out explicitly.
Tell us what growth to allow for. Spare drops cost very little on install day and a great deal afterwards — adding two ports to a wall we're already opening is cheap; coming back next year to open it again is not.
Pathways and cable pulled
We install pathways, sleeves and supports, pull every run back to the comms room, label both ends as we go, and restore any fire-rated wall or floor penetration we make. On a construction site this happens before the ceiling and drywall close.
Give us the space and the sequence. On an occupied site, we work floor by floor or zone by zone and you clear the areas ahead of us. On a construction site, tell us the real ceiling-close date rather than the optimistic one.
Racks, panels, jacks, dressing
We terminate the patch panels and the jacks, build or re-dress the rack, mount switches and any PoE gear, install access points where the survey put them, and label everything to the drop schedule.
Have power and a lockable, ventilated home for the rack ready. This is the item that most often holds a project up — if an electrician needs to add a circuit or a receptacle at the closet, that has to be booked by you and done before we terminate.
Test, document, hand over
Every run is tested with a certifier and any failing run is re-terminated and retested until it passes. You get the test results per port, the as-built port map, photographs of the finished closet, and a walkthrough of what connects where.
Nominate who holds the documentation. The package is only useful if the next person who opens that closet — your IT support, a new manager, another trade — can find it.
Have this ready and the job goes faster
- A floor plan with furniture, equipment and door positions marked, even a rough one
- A decision on where the comms room or rack lives, and whether it can be locked
- Confirmation that power at the rack exists, or a note that your electrician still has to add it
- Landlord or base-building approval if the work touches risers, corridors, the roof or the exterior
- Any existing cabling documentation or test results, however old
- Site access details — hours, loading dock, ceiling-access restrictions, whether a lift can get in
- Contact for your IT support, so we can match VLANs, switch config and naming to what they already run
Why two 30-drop quotes can look nothing alike
We price a cabling job after walking it, not off a per-drop rate, because the cable itself is a small part of the cost. These are the things that actually move the number.
What your ceilings and walls are made of
An open ceiling with accessible tray is fast. Hard-lid ceilings, block walls, poured concrete, historic finishes and anything requiring a lift are slow. The same drop count in two buildings can differ by days of labour purely on construction.
Run length, risers and core access
Runs that stay on one floor are straightforward. Getting between floors means a riser or a core, which means coordination with the landlord, possibly a core drill, and firestopping the penetration afterwards. Long runs may also mean fibre and a second closet rather than copper.
Remediation versus a fresh pull
Cleaning up and re-terminating what's there is usually cheaper than re-pulling, provided the cable is the right category, in good condition and takes a sensible path. Where it isn't, remediation is money spent twice. We test a sample before quoting so this is a decision based on results, not opinion.
When we're allowed on site
Normal hours are the cheapest way to do this. Evenings, overnights, weekends, or working around a trading floor or a clinical space costs more per hour — sometimes far less than the disruption would have. Construction sites have their own version of this: being called back because the schedule moved is rework you end up paying for.
Certification and documentation depth
A basic continuity check is quick. Full certification with per-port results, an as-built drawing and a manufacturer warranty registration takes longer and costs more — and is the thing you want the day a landlord, an insurer or a new IT provider asks what's in your walls.
What the cable has to carry
Data for laptops, PoE for cameras and access points, and links carrying a building's backbone are not the same specification. Powering devices over the same cable affects category, bundle sizing and switch selection. Telling us what's going on the end stops you buying capability you don't need.
The walkthrough and the quote are free, and the quote is fixed — the number on it is what you pay unless the scope changes or we find something behind a wall that nobody could have seen. We price remediation and new installation side by side where both are viable, so you can see what you're choosing between rather than being told.
Answered before you have to ask
“Can't my IT guy just run some cable?”
For one drop across an open ceiling, often yes, and we'd rather you did that than pay us to come out. It stops being true at scale. Bundle management, support spacing, staying away from line voltage, restoring fire-rated penetrations, terminating to a consistent standard and certifying the result are a trade, and the failures they prevent are the intermittent kind that costs days to chase later. A good IT provider generally tells you this themselves — most of ours do, which is how a lot of this work reaches us.
“Is it worth re-pulling, or should I just patch what's there?”
Sometimes patching is genuinely the right answer, and we say so regularly. If the existing cable is the right category, in reasonable condition and routed sanely, then re-terminating the ends, dressing the closet and labelling it gives you most of the benefit for a fraction of the cost. Re-pulling earns its money when the cable is the wrong category for what you're asking of it, has been damaged, or takes a route we can't trust. We test a sample first and show you the results before you decide.
“Will you work around my other trades, or hold up my schedule?”
We work to the construction schedule, not our own. That means rough-in before the ceiling closes, staying out of the drywall crew's way, attending site meetings when you want us there, and coming back for termination and testing at the right point in the sequence. We stay inside the low-voltage scope — line voltage, panel work and anything requiring an electrical permit belongs to your electrician, and we coordinate with them rather than around them.
“What do I actually get at the end of this?”
A labelled patch panel and labelled jacks that match each other, a port map tying every jack to a room and a panel position, certification results for each run, photographs of the finished closet, and an as-built drawing. It lives with you, not with us. The test is simple: someone who has never been in your building should be able to open that closet and know what they're looking at.
“My Wi-Fi is terrible. Won't better access points fix it?”
Occasionally. More often the access points are fine and they're in the wrong places, on the wrong channels, or starved by the cable feeding them. Warehouses, high racking, block walls, metal mezzanines and glass partitions all change coverage in ways a floor plan doesn't show. We survey the space and measure it rather than assuming, and if the honest answer is that you need two more access points instead of a full replacement, that's the quote you'll get.
“How much disruption is this going to cause my staff?”
Less than most people expect on a fit-out, more than most expect in an occupied office. We work zone by zone so only one area is affected at a time, and desks that aren't being touched keep working. The genuinely disruptive part is the comms room cutover, which we schedule outside your hours where the site can't tolerate downtime. If we do need to take the network down, you'll know the date and the window well ahead of it, not on the morning.
